The National Collegiate Wrestling Association Women's National Dual Team Championship was held in Faith Arena at the O'Dell Center on Saturday, Jan 22nd. This was the first time the event has ever been held.
OUAZ's Women's Wrestling was up to the challenge claiming the National Title with victories over The Apprentice School from Norfolk, Va and Grand Canyon University from Arizona.
One of the highlights of the day came in the second match against Grand Canyon. Jasmin Soc-Lopez (OUAZ) faced off again Daniella Suttles (GCU). In their previous two meetings, Suttle has come out on top. This time it was all Soc-Lopez. She scored the first takedown and went on to secure the pin in the first period.
Another highlight was a match between OUAZ's Iyanla Thomas and Erin Aragon (The AS). Aragon was the National Runner-up two years ago. Thomas was able to overcome a strong start by Aragon to get the pin in the third period.
Other key victories were Cheyenne William (OUAZ) with the pin over Sami Tuttle (GCU) and Courtney Cardoza (OUAZ) over Amanda Rasmouoff (GCU).
Also, securing victories for OUAZ were Sara Gaytan, Hermelinda Mendoza, Diaja Sams, Katherine Cuellar, Veronica Palmer, and Trinity Robinson.
