WOMEN'S WRESTLING HIT THE MATS AT THE COLORADO MESA MAVERICK OPEN AND THE EMBRY-RIDDLE OPEN TO START THE SEASON

The OUAZ Women's Wrestling team went on the road to start the season. They first traveled to Colorado Mesa University Maverick Open on Nov 2 and then to the Embry-Riddle Open on Nov 15
th.
The team got the season off to slow start at the Maverick Open. "We did not perform as well as we are capable of" said Head Coach
Ed Cruz. "We expect more."
There were certainly some highlights.Â
Josemmidee Moody went 4-2 for the tournament with key wins against NAIA and NCAA wrestlers.
Anja Hansen and
Ebony Cortez were 2-2 for the day. Also winning matches were
Makayla Lopez,
Liliana Voakes,
Angelina Walker, Marley Castenada.
With two weeks until the Embry-Riddle Open, the team went to work in the Wrestling Room. They keyed on fixing the mistakes made in technique and worked on mat awareness. "Everything we saw at Colorado Mesa were things that can be fixed" said Coach Cruz. "This team has a great attitude, and they are all focused on getting better."
The team's hard work paid off at Embry-Riddle. From the start they wrestled with a purpose. There was dramatic improvement by each wrestler.Â
